Coex’ae Qgam, a Naro woman, known by the name Dada, became famous within her community as an artist of extraordinary character. She exhibited her work throughout Souther Africa, Europe, Japan and the United States of America. A founding member of the Kuru Art Project, based in the small village of D’kar, in the Ghanzi district of Botswana, Dada was not only a painter and a printmaker but also became the translator, spokesperson and ambassador for her art group and ultimately for her tribe, the Ncoakhoe, or as the name translates, ‘The red people’.
This book records conversations and interviews with Dada, and about Dada, over a period of 17 years. Within its pages, there is captured the soul that is Dada and her people.
